1942 – Mick Travers was born in Blackwater. He turned professional in October 1959. Initially a left half, he moved to left wing and twice he scored double figures in a season. From 1962-63 he spent 4 years as a first team regular and made a total of 184(2) appearances for Reading, scoring 36 goals. Once he took over as from an injured linesman in a home match!
